Karen R. Jenkins named incoming Columbia chamber chairwoman
Karen R. Jenkins was named the incoming chairwoman of the Columbia Chamber of Commerce. She will become the first African American woman to head the chamber’s board and has also recently joined the board of the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce. Jenkins will also serve as the Chair of the Small Business Committee at the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce, securing her a spot on the Executive Committee. Jenkins brings to her chamber role her strong business acumen and a different voice than the chamber has had, CEO Carl Blackstone said.
“I want to learn the intricacies of Columbia. I want to know who are the movers and the shakers. I want to understand from their perspective what their needs are,” Jenkins said. “Because maybe I can help, maybe I can add value.”
